ASUS Padfone 2 shown off briefly on video, 4.7-inch display in tow [UPDATED]Alex Wagner - Deputy Managing Editor, News Desk
The ASUS Padfone 2 is due to be officially unveiled at an event on October 16, but it looks like we won't have to wait that long to get our first peek at the device. In a video posted today by BloombergUTV, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen showed off the Padfone 2 as well as its tablet docking station. The Padfone 2 itself is said to have a look and feel similar to that of the original Padfone, but the new model touts a 4.7-inch display with an HD resolution, which is an increase from the 4.3-inch screen found on the original Padfone. Also included on the Padfone 2 is a 13-megapixel camera and a battery that's described as being able to last all day.
Moving on to the tablet dock, the Padfone 2 now slots directly into the rear of the tablet itself. On the previous Padfone, users had to open a flip cover on the tablet to slip the phone into, but that's not the case with the Padfone 2. The tablet dock is also said to be thinner and lighter than the older model.
Obviously there are still quite a few details about the Padfone 2 that we don't have, including price and launch info, but so far the Padfone 2 looks to be a pretty nice improvement over its predecessor. The new version follows the trend of other high-end phones with its larger, 4.7-inch display, and the 13-megapixel shooter also sounds appealing, though we'll have to actually try it out for ourselves to see how it really performs. Thankfully, the Padfone 2's official introduction is less than a week out, so it won't be too long before all of the details are (hopefully) ironed out. The Padfone 2 portion of the video below starts at around 1:40 in.
